Lisa was very excited about an investment opportunity that came her way. She heard about a community bank that was starting up in California. She decided to invest $50,000 from her SEP IRA into the community bank. She bought 25,000 shares at $2.00 each, and later sold them for $6.50 when a larger bank purchased the community bank. Her total IRA funds went from $50,000 to $162,500, a gain of 325%, all while deferring taxes until she retires.*
