Including secured, unsecured, and convertible notes.

Investing in private lending assets through your self-directed IRA (SDIRA) allows you to hold loans secured or unsecured by real estate, businesses, or other assets.

This guide walks you through how to submit a private lending investment request in the Entrust Client Portal.

  1. Start a New Investment Request: Log in to the Entrust Client Portal, locate the “Quick Links” box, and click “Make an Investment.” Select “Alternative Assets,” scroll down, and click “Next.”

  2. Select Investment Details: Choose the account you want to use for this investment and the transaction type:
      1. Select “New Purchase” if this is a brand-new investment. Then, select “Private Lending.”
      2. Select “Additional Funding” if you’re lending additional funds from an existing investment.

  3. Indicate the Note Amount and Note Type: Specify the note amount and the type of note you’re investing in:
      1. Secured Note: Loan backed by collateral (e.g., real estate or other assets).
      2. Unsecured Note: Loan issued based on creditworthiness without collateral.
      3. Convertible Note: Loan that can convert into equity under specific conditions.

  4. Enter Borrower Information: Select whether the borrower is an entity (e.g., an LLC or corporation) or an individual. Enter the borrower’s name and email address.
      1. Note: Once submitted, Entrust will send an email to the borrower for their electronic signature confirming loan details.

  5. Choose Your Fund Delivery Method: Enter delivery instructions for the note recipient. Select and how the funds will be sent to the borrower:
      1. Wire: $30
      2. ACH: Free
      3. Check: $10
      4. Cashier’s Check: $30

  6. Upload Required Documents: Upload the promissory note. If applicable, upload an amortization schedule. Check the box confirming Entrust will sign on behalf of your IRA as the lender.
      1. Important: The Note must include “Read and Approved” with your signature and date.

  7. Review Fees & Select Payment Method: A $95 asset purchase fee applies to new private lending investments. If you selected a funds delivery method other than ACH, an additional fee will be listed. Choose your payment method—either your IRA cash balance or the card on file.

  8. Review and Submit Your Request: Carefully read the Acknowledgments & Disclosures section. Check all required agreement boxes to confirm your understanding. Scroll down and click “Submit” to finalize your request.

What Happens Next?

  • Entrust sends an email to the borrower for their electronic signature.
  • Once the borrower signs, Entrust performs a final review.
  • If everything is in order, funds will be released and the investment will be processed.

By following these steps, you can successfully invest in private lending assets through your Entrust SDIRA.
