*The uninvested cash in your account is not charged a 0.15% fee, regardless of the amount of cash held in there. The 0.15% fee is assessed solely on the total asset value above $50,000. For example, an account with two assets of a total value of $150,000 and $12,000 cash would pay a fee of $299 + 0.15% of $100,000 ($150), or a total of $449 annually.

There is a cap on recordkeeping fees at $2,299 per year, so no matter how much your account grows, you know you will never pay more.

How much money can I put in a Self-Directed IRA?

What type of fees are associated with a SDIRA?

I thought only stocks, bonds, or mutual funds were allowed in retirement accounts? Why haven’t I heard of this before?

Most investors are surprised to find out that investing in alternative investments with your retirement funds has actually been around since 1974. Most brokerage firms and banks offer investments, like stocks and bonds. For this reason, it’s not in their best interest to talk about self-directed retirement accounts, and they don’t have the infrastructure or expertise to handle them.

Can I invest in my own business with a self-directed IRA?

No, this is considered a prohibited transaction as it is a conflict of interest by involving a disqualified person (you).

How do I start a Self-Directed IRA?

Our process is quick and straightforward. Follow these steps:

  1. Open a new account: you can open an account online here, download the account application here or speak with an Entrust representative at 800-392-9653, option 2.
  2. Fund your account. Entrust offers multiple options for funding your IRA.
  3. Choose an investment. If you have an investment in mind and have any questions, contact Entrust to get started.
What rules must you follow with a SDIRA?

A few self-directed IRA rules from the IRS to keep in mind with these types of retirement accounts include being aware of contribution limits, avoiding prohibited transactions, accurately reporting the fair market value of your assets, understanding distribution rules, and paying attention to any unrelated business income tax you may be responsible for.

What types of investments aren’t allowed with a self directed IRA?
Transactions not permitted under a SDIRA include life insurance contracts, collectibles, and S corporations. In addition, any investment involving a disqualified person (spouse, parents, children and more) are considered prohibited transactions.
Can I move my 401(k) into a Self-Directed IRA?
Yes, you can move funds from an old employer’s 401(k) into a self-directed IRA via a rollover. Other methods to fund your account include transfers and cash contributions. Contributions are subject to IRA contribution limits that the IRS publishes each year.
Are there any disadvantages to a Self-Directed IRA?

Self-directed accounts require that the investor find investments and perform the due diligence. SDIRA holders must also be aware of the rules and regulations for their accounts in order to avoid prohibited transactions. Put simply, an SDIRA is not a ‘set it and forget it’ investment strategy, so it’s important to consider your own interest in managing your accounts.

What should I look for in a SDIRA Custodian?
A few key things you want to look for in a potential company include investment options, disclosure, expertise, fees, data protection, insurance, and servicing times.
When can I start withdrawing my money?
To begin accessing your funds without a penalty, you must have reached 59 ½ years old. Depending on the type of IRA, taking early distributions will result in a 10% early distribution penalty tax. At age 70 ½, you must start taking required minimum distributions, depending on the type of account you hold.
Can I invest in my own business with a self-directed IRA?

No, this is considered a prohibited transaction as it is a conflict of interest by involving a disqualified person (you).
