Taking Control of Your Future

IRA & 401(k) Insights

Due to the recent, and unprecedented stock market decline, many individuals who invested their money in the stock market – whether they’re mutual funds or individual stocks - have seen their retirement accounts shrink significantly as a result.

If you are among those affected by the current “roller coaster” of a market, now, more then ever, is an opportunistic time to review your goals, tolerance for volatility, and evaluate what it is that you really want to invest in when it comes to your retirement plans.

There are about 55 million IRAs, and a staggering 95% are invested in Wall Street. In light of market uncertainty, and poor stock performance, a growing number of investors are deserting Wall Street and deploying their funds to truly self-directed retirement plans.

Why? Simply, it allows IRA holders to have direct control and empowerment over their retirement investments. Another benefit and main advantage of a truly self-directed IRA is that it allows the account holder flexibility to invest in all “allowable” assets, not just securities. That includes both “traditional” investments (i.e. stocks, bonds, CDs) and “non-traditional” investments (i.e. real estate, precious metals, promissory notes, private stock, oil and gas leases, and much more).

Currently, the retirement portfolios held in “traditional” IRA accounts in banks and brokerage firms only offer a limited menu of financial products with the incentive of making commissions. However, administrators of self-directed IRA accounts, like The Entrust Group, do not sell or promote any particular asset. This means you invest in what you want.

With the multitude of options available, there’s no reason for you to limit your investment choices to the traditional stocks, bonds and CDs, especially during these uncertain times. Continued education with Entrust, and due diligence on the investment choices you want, will enable you to take control of your financial future with a truly self-directed IRA.
